Describing unflattering labels as the norm in politics, Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein dismissed topping the list of Lim Guan Eng’s “10 failed ministers”.
Reading between the lines, Hishammuddin said when opponents assigned such labels, it carried the opposite meaning.
"In politics, when someone issues such a statement, it shows they are worried about what we have accomplished. If they don’t care about us, that means we didn’t do our work,” he told a press conference in Kuala Lumpur today.
Furthermore, the Umno leader does not expect the DAP chairperson to shower him with accolades.
“To Guan Eng, continue talking. I know that even until Judgment Day, he will never say that I am a successful minister," he said.
Lim had bestowed the title on Hishammuddin due to the Littoral Combat Ships (LCS) scandal. This is because the defence minister had overseen the purchase of ships worth RM9 billion.
"This most outrageous scandal involves the payment of RM6 billion without a single ship being completed. Hishammuddin even launched an incomplete LCS in 2017 with a fake mast costing RM400,000 - which was later disposed of," said Lim in a statement earlier this week.
Other ministers on the list included Islamic Affairs Minister Idris Ahmad, Energy and Natural Resources Minister Takiyuddin Hassan and Environment and Water Minister Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
In a separate development, Hishammuddin told reporters this afternoon that all five armed forces hospitals nationwide will be upgraded.
Other medical facilities for the armed forces are also expected to be upgraded. This includes the 19 RMATs (Rumah Sakit Angkatan Tentera) nationwide. - Mkini
