PAS' stance that it cannot view any Malay-Muslim group as their "main enemy" is an indication of the rift within Perikatan Nasional (PN), an Amanah leader said today.
In fact, such remarks are a telling sign of PAS' "desperate" move to reunite with Umno in the Muafakat Nasional coalition, claimed Permatang Pasir assemblyperson Faiz Fadzil (above, left).
"It is clear that the Umno-Bersatu rift is irreparable, so it is impossible for the two parties and PAS, to get back together.
"The flip-flop by PAS in choosing between the 'old husband' and 'new husband' shows the real picture of these three parties fighting for power while riding on the Malay-Muslim agenda," Faiz said in a statement today.
He was referring to the statement by PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan (above, right) yesterday that the party could not accept the stance of anyone who labelled a Malay-Muslim group as their "main enemy".
"This is especially in matters involving the position and power of Muslims in governing a country where the majority are Muslims such as Malaysia.
"Such remarks are unwise and awkward if the party labelled as the main enemy is a partner in a unity government," Takiyuddin said.
While Takiyuddin did not mention names, the remark came after PN chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin declared an open war against rival BN in the upcoming 15th general election (GE15), last weekend.
Muhyiddin, who is also Bersatu president, met with his PAS counterpart Abdul Hadi Awang last night, to discuss matters that were agreed upon to strengthen PN for the next general election.
Political instability will continue
According to Faiz, the three parties became part of the unstable government after the "treacherous" Sheraton Move, and the instability will continue even if the parties do win GE15.
He lambasted PAS for “pawning” its original struggles to hold hands with its "traditional enemy" Umno.
"The implementation of hudud via amendments to the Syariah Courts (Criminal Jurisdiction) Act 1965 (Act 355), which connected both PAS and Umno prior to the 14th general election, is no longer on the parties' agenda, despite both parties forming the government today.
"PAS used to oppose gambling, but now it works in cahoots with Umno to increase the number of 4D numbers ‘special draws’ to 22 this year. The PAS youth used to oppose any form of entertainment, but now they are warming up to the idea of ‘mega concerts’ in Kelantan," said Faiz.
Such submission clearly shows that PAS is not fighting for Islamic-based principles, but is only interested in power, he added.
"PAS' argument that it has to join with Umno for the Malay-Muslim cause no longer applies, as Umno, which had ruled the country is the party responsible for the loss of millions of ringgit in public funds through Tabung Haji, Mara, and Felda.
"Umno leaders who are involved in corruption and power abuse scandals are being extended a handshake by PAS, which makes one wonder whether corruption is suddenly 'halal'," quipped Faiz. - Mkini
