PETALING JAYA: A former deputy women, family and community development minister has called for the current minister, Rina Harun, to be sacked following a promotional video which she said had degraded women.
In a statement, Hannah Yeoh said this was not the first time Rina resorted to cheap publicity that embarrassed the ministry.
“Even worse, Rina and officers of Yayasan Kebajikan Negara just stood by and smiled as insults were levelled at women,” she said referring to a TikTok video featuring actor Rosyam Nor.
In the 40-second video, Rosyam was heard saying that women were tardy and should get up when promoting an event for the ministry.
He also said he would beat up the women who wanted to meet him to wake them up.
Yeoh went on to question how scripts that made fun of women were approved by Rina or the ministry.
“If Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob is serious about Keluarga Malaysia, he should fire such a minister who belittles women.”
The Segambut MP also said Rina was not being paid by taxpayers to work as an event organiser.
“The ministry has been a joke for the past three years. It saddens me to see the personnel, agencies under the ministry as well as its target groups used like this.”
Yeoh said it was time for Rina and her deputy to wake up after more than a three-year probation period. - FMT
