PETALING JAYA: Umno Supreme Council member Abdul Rahman Dahlan has reportedly confirmed that he will be contesting for a seat in the next general election (GE15).
According to Utusan Malaysia, the former Kota Belud MP said his name will be in Barisan Nasional’s list of candidates for the nationwide polls, though he did not say which seat he is eyeing.
“It is still up to the party to decide (on the seat). I believe it is the party leadership’s aspirations for me to offer myself as a candidate for the general election,” he was quoted as saying.
However, he hinted that he would most likely be contesting in Kota Belud, which he held for two terms before going for the Sepanggar seat in the 14th general election (GE14), where he lost to Warisan’s Azis Jamman by 12,984 votes.
According to Rahman, he never intended to leave Kota Belud in GE14 but was directed to contest in Sepanggar instead.
“Although I’m no longer the elected representative there, for the past five years I have been working to get the federal government’s approval to establish a polytechnic in Kota Belud,” the former federal minister said.
Rahman added that the first phase of the polytechnic’s development has been approved by Putrajaya. - FMT
