Immigration DG: Employers must wait for, pick up foreign workers at KLIA

Employers will be required to wait for and pick up their hired foreign workers at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Immigration Department director-general Khairul Dzaimee Daud (above) said this is to ensure all foreign workers have legitimate local employers.

"The employer will be given up to six hours to come to KLIA to pick up their workers, sort out their documentation and verify that they are the legitimate employer.

"In certain circumstances, this time period can be extended, and the foreign workers will not be allowed to leave the airport until their employers arrive to pick them up," Khairul said in a statement posted on the department's official Facebook today.

The post was made in response to a social media post that had made baseless allegations against the department.

"Failure by the employer to do so will cause the foreign workers to be given a 'Not to Land' (NTL) notice and sent back to their countries on the next available flight," added Khairul.

He also said that the department has processed the arrival of 98,097 foreign workers since the country's border reopened, from April 1 to Sept 26 this year. - Mkini
