PETALING JAYA: Kedah Umno information chief Suraya Yaacob, confirming she was invited to the PAS muktamar, said the invitation was to her as a state executive councillor, not a party official.
Suraya said she had not attended the PAS annual assembly or meetings held by Kedah PAS in the past four years since Umno and PAS formed the Muafakat Nasional alliance.
She said in a statement that she received the muktamar invitation from the chief special officer of the Kedah menteri besar. The menteri besar, Sanuni Md Nor, is a deputy commissioner of the party.
“Even when I was chatting with PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan at a ceremony in Yan on Sept 1, he jokingly pointed out that the annual muktamar was held concurrently with the prime minister’s official visit to Kedah.”
She added that Takiyuddin did not mention inviting other national or state Umno leaders for the muktamar. Kedah Umno chief Jamil Khir Baharom, who was at the same ceremony, also did not get an invitation.
Suraya said PAS should be more sincere and truthful to the people about muktamar invitations to Umno leaders.
Yesterday, Takiyuddin said Umno’s top leaders, including the party president and the state chapter’s leadership, had been invited to attend the muktamar.
Earlier today, he reiterated that his party had indeed invited Umno, MCA, and MIC to attend the muktamar two weeks ago. This came after Jamil claimed Kedah Umno was not invited to PAS’ annual meeting. - FMT
