We’ll reopen 15 criminal cases dropped by PH, says Umno man

PETALING JAYA: Barisan Nasional will reopen criminal cases dropped by Pakatan Harapan should the coalition come to power, says an Umno leader.

Umno Supreme Council member Isham Jalil said the attorney-general at the time, Tommy Thomas, had dropped criminal charges against several PH leaders in the 22 months of the PH government.

Isham contrasted the PH action with the case against former prime minister Najib Razak, who has been jailed on corruption charges.

“Najib had never asked for his cases to be dropped. He just wanted justice and a fair trial. We didn’t get that,” he said at a solidarity rally for Najib in Pekan, Najib’s constituency.

“I would like to say to these people … when we win the next election, we will reopen the 15 cases that PH dropped. We will arrest and charge them,” he told the crowd, prompting them to chant in agreement with him.

Najib is currently serving his 12-year jail sentence at the Kajang prison after the Federal Court upheld his conviction and sentence, which includes a fine of RM210 million, in the SRC International case.

Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi had recently testified at his own corruption trial that PH had carried out selective prosecution through Thomas.

Zahid claimed that he, Najib, Umno treasurer Tengku Adnan Mansor, then Umno information chief Ahmad Maslan and 18 others from the party were prosecuted.

He said that Thomas, however, had dropped charges against 15 PH leaders, including Sungai Buloh MP R Sivarasa, Bagan MP and former Penang chief minister Lim Guan Eng, Pasir Gudang MP Hassan Abdul Karim and then PKR vice-president Rafizi Ramli. - FMT
