A Johor MIC leader has volunteered to contest in former BN stronghold Pulai in the 15th general election (GE15).
This is two weeks after the seat's former MP, Nur Jazlan Mohamed, challenged MIC deputy president M Saravanan to contest the parliamentary seat.
Nur Jazlan had dared Saravanan to contest in Pulai - a mixed seat - after the latter chastised him for saying that BN could no longer rely on MCA and MIC.
In a statement today, Johor MIC information chief S Deva (above) said he would take up the challenge.
Chiding Nur Jazlan as an "elitist" and "unprincipled" KL-lite who rarely spent time in Pulai, Deva expressed confidence in being a good candidate as he was a local and was deeply involved in the community.
"As Johor MIC information chief, I want to take up Nur Jazlan's challenge, and he has to be a gentleman and support my candidacy and make Pulai a seat for MIC in Johor during GE15," he said.
Nur Jazlan - who is Johor BN deputy chief - had held the seat for three terms before being ousted by Amanah deputy president Salahuddin Ayub in the 2018 general election.
He has since said he would not contest in Pulai again and challenged several people, including MCA president Wee Ka Siong to be BN's candidate.
Last month he took potshots at MIC and MCA, saying BN could not rely on them for non-Malay support and that the two parties were heavily dependent on Umno.
Saravanan, in response, called Nur Jazlan delusional and that people like him were why BN lost in 2018. - Mkini
