All members of the judiciary will be required to declare their assets to the MACC, said Prime Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.
This was one of the decisions made by the Special Cabinet Committee on Anti-Corruption in its meeting today.
“The meeting today also agreed that all the chief executive officers of government-linked companies and government-linked investment companies, and members of the judiciary, have to declare their assets to the MACC.
“Details of this new code of ethics will be tabled by the MACC in the committee’s next meeting,” Ismail Sabri said in a statement.
Apart from that, Ismail Sabri said the government will also strengthen the asset declaration mechanisms for administrative members, parliamentarians and senators to boost government credibility and integrity.
"A new code of ethics for MPs will be introduced via the House of Parliament (Privileges and Powers) Act 1952, taking into consideration upholding the principle of separation of power between the executive and legislative bodies," he said.
Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri said the special cabinet committee also agreed to amend the Audit Act 1957 in order to strengthen professionalism and guarantee the independence of the role of the auditor-general.
This is to partly prevent the auditor-general from involving in activities, or federal or state service committees, noted the Bera MP.
The amendment of the Audit Act will allow the auditor-general to audit any entities, including government-interest companies, in line with his discretion, he said. - Mkini
