INTERVIEW | PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang’s desire for the party’s non-Muslim supporters’ wing to get as much support as DAP is unrealistic, said an Amanah leader.
Kedah Amanah chief Phahrolrazi Mohd Zawawi said this is due to PAS’ messaging and agenda as it seeks to work with Umno.
“The ummah unity struggle being marketed, who is it targeted to? I think it is Malays and Muslims. That is PAS’ main policy.
“But suddenly, he asks the wing to get Chinese, non-Malay votes. How are they to do that?” he said in a recent interview with Malaysiakini.member, said it was illogical to expect the non-Muslim supporters’ wing to get non-Malay support on a platform struggling for Malay- Muslims.
“You can’t do that... the people know that (Malay-Muslim unity) is where the party is headed,” he said.
During the PAS Muktamar two weeks ago, Hadi said if DAP can make an Indian candidate win in a Chinese-majority area, a non-Muslim supporter candidate should also be able to woo non-Malay voters.
This came a week after Hadi accused non-Muslims of being the primary source of corruption at the grassroots.
Phahrolrazi said such messages were contradictory to the PAS president’s goals to win over non-Malay support.
“What does the PAS president want actually?
“Is it politically beneficial when Hadi and PAS said that non-Muslims and non-Bumiputeras are the sources of corruption in the country?
“No one in their right mind will say that it benefits PAS,” he said. - Mkini
