Muda president Syed Saddiq Abdul Rahman has urged the authorities to definitively state when the littoral combat ships (LCS) will be delivered.
This, said Syed Saddiq, was necessary due to conflicting claims on the delivery date made by Armed Forces chief Affendi Buang and Defence Minister Hishammuddin Hussein.
"In this instance, I believe the words of the armed forces because history has shown that they criticised the minister and prime minister repeatedly before," said Syed Saddiq on his Facebook page yesterday.
In an interview with several major news organisations on Tuesday, Affendi stated that the first five LCS will be delivered in January 2026, September 2026, May 2027, January 2028, and September 2028, respectively.
Soon after, those media organisations withdrew the news article with no explanation given.
Hishammuddin told reporters on Wednesday that the "timeline" for the LCS delivery he had revealed to Parliament last month has not changed.
In August, Hishammuddin told the Dewan Negara that the first LCS would be delivered in two years. The fate of the other LCS was unknown.
At the time of writing, the armed forces have not issued any correction for the dates mentioned by Affendi.
Meanwhile, Syed Saddiq said assuming that 2026 was indeed the delivery date, he urged the government to explain if the technology on the LCS would be outdated since it had taken 15 years since the specifications were laid out. - Mkini
