Man drowns in Lumut trying to stop car from sliding into sea

 

IPOH: A man drowned while trying to stop his car from sliding into the sea near a beach on Jalan Teluk Senangin in Lumut.

A Perak Fire and Rescue Department spokesman said the man, identified as Muhammad Hafiz Ramli, 31, had been wedged by his car as he was trying to stop it from sliding down towards the water on Thursday (Sept 15) night.

"We received the emergency call at about 11.35pm.

"Some members of the public had already pulled him out of the waters onto shore when our personnel arrived," the spokesman said in a statement.

"He was confirmed dead by medical personnel from the Seri Manjung Hospital and his body has been handed over to the police," he added.

The spokesman said the firemen had also conducted a size-up at the location to ensure there were no other dangers.

"We've also removed the cables from the car battery to prevent any further untoward incident," he said, adding that the operation ended on Saturday (Sept 16) at 1.45am. - Star
