ALOR STAR: Pas president Tan Sri Abdul Hadi Awang said the Islamist party has to make less enemies and more allies if it intends to capture Putrajaya.

In his winding up speech at the 68th Pas Muktamar here today – possibly the last annual delegates assembly before the next general election is called - Abdul Hadi said Pas members and leaders must stick together to defend its national politics approach.

"In steering the way towards fully dominating the government, we must uphold the national politics strategy by reducing the number of enemies.

"That is why we must work with NGOs (non-governmental organisations) that are willing to work with us, not pick fights.

"This is the approach, by making less enemies and expanding the number of allies, so we must be consistent, and not be hasty," Abdul Hadi told the party's 1,300 delegates who packed the Dewan Datuk Fadzil Noor at the Kedah Pas Complex, here.

He reminded Pas leaders and delegates against working in silo and looking after their own interest just because they were already in power.

Abdul Hadi said Pas should learn from DAP on how the party fielded candidates from the Indian community in Chinese-majority seats in the general election.

He added that Pas had been successful in bringing down the racial wall with the non-Muslims via the formation of its non-Malays' Pas Supporters' wing.

As such, he said the party should build on the momentum to field more candidates from the non-Malay communities.

"We should be taking lessons on DAP's success in fielding Indian candidates in Chinese-majority seats, so why can't Pas do that?

"These are among the weaknesses that we must address," he said.

He said winning over the non-Malay hearts and minds was the next step for Pas to form the government, after forming a cooperation with Malay-based parties following the 14th general election.

"If we stick to the plan, we will achieve victory with help from Allah.

"With one heart, we march to Putrajaya," he said. - NST
