PH committee to hold talks with Muda, PSM

The Pakatan Harapan presidential council said Muda and PSM’s intention to join or partner with the coalition meant that the opposition would be able to avoid some seat clashes in GE15.

PETALING JAYA: Pakatan Harapan (PH) has formed a committee to hold talks with Muda on its application to be a part of the coalition.

PH’s presidential council said the committee would also hold negotiations with Parti Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) over its desire to officially work with the coalition in the 15th general election (GE15).

The members of the committee are PKR vice-president Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, DAP organising secretary Steven Sim, Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda and Upko vice-president Ewon Benedick.

In a statement, the presidential council said Muda and PSM’s intention to join or partner with PH meant that the opposition coalition would be able to avoid some seat clashes in GE15.

PKR information chief Fahmi Fadzil told reporters outside the party’s headquarters that no deadline had been set for PH to decide on Muda’s admission into the coalition.

“The committee will have that meeting (with PSM and Muda) first, and then they will report back to the presidential council,” he said, adding that PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail would be writing to the two parties.

Meanwhile, DAP secretary-general Loke Siew Fook said discussions with Muda and PSM would be held within the next two weeks.

He added that PH would hold a convention on Oct 29 in Ipoh, Perak, to assemble the coalition’s members and announce its direction in facing GE15.

Earlier this month, Loke said PH’s presidential council had received an official application from Muda to join the coalition.

On Sept 6, Muda president Syed Saddiq Syed Abdul Rahman said the party had begun preliminary discussions with PH on joining the coalition. DAP and fellow component party PKR are at odds on welcoming Muda to PH.

Meanwhile, PH chairman Anwar Ibrahim told reporters that the coalition’s new logo would be finalised within the next two days. - FMT
