KUALA LUMPUR: PKR president Anwar Ibrahim says the party will go all-out to reclaim constituencies from those who betrayed the voters’ trust in them.
PKR kickstarted its first Rapat Mega (mega gathering) event last night in Melawati, an area under the Gombak constituency, whose MP, Azmin Ali, defected from PKR and played an instrumental role in toppling the Pakatan Harapan government through the Sheraton Move in February 2020.
Azmin is now with Bersatu.
Without naming anyone, Anwar said PKR has come to “attack” constituencies held by “traitors”.
“To friends in Gombak, Ampang, and their alliances, please listen carefully,” he told those present. “In our election strategy, the constituencies that we will attack the most are those that have been chosen by the people to look after them but they were betrayed.
“That’s the reason why we are focusing on these areas to punish and topple them.”
For the record, the Ampang MP is former PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamaruddin, who also left the party during the Sheraton Move and is now the president-designate of Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM).
Anwar expressed confidence that PKR will win the Gombak seat in the next general election (GE15).
Among the PKR leaders present at the event were deputy president Rafizi Ramli, Selangor menteri besar Amirudin Shari, Negeri Sembilan menteri besar Aminuddin Harun, and PKR youth chief Adam Adli.
Meanwhile, Rafizi reminded Anwar that it would not be easy to manage the country if Pakatan Harapan were to take over Putrajaya.
“As a country, we are stuck,” said Rafizi.
“If Anwar becomes the prime minister, it won’t be easy (task) in the current situation. We will inherit a country that is ‘critically sick’,” he said, in an apparent reference to corruption. - FMT
