KOTA BARU: People from Kelantan have lauded Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob's announcement on the proposed four projects in the east coast state.

Housewife Azzah Mohamad Som said the East Coast Expressway Phase 3 (LPT3) project would benefit road users, especially those travelling from Pahang to Kelantan.

"I have been using the LPT3 for the past four years, particularly during school holidays and festival periods.

"It cuts short my journey to two hours from Kuantan to Kota Baru," said the 28-year-old mother of two.

"The proposed new bridge in Rantau Panjang and another bridge connecting Pengkalan Kubor in Tumpat to Takbai will also help boost the tourism industries in Malaysia and Thailand," said the 51-year-old from Rantau Panjang.

Ismail Sabri, during his working visit to Kelantan on Sept 9, announced that the federal government had approved four projects for Kelantan at the East Coast Economic Region Development Council (ECERDC) meeting.

The projects are the border town development; East Coast Expressway Phase 3 (LPT3) project; extension of the Kuantan-Segamat highway project comprising routes from Runchang to Simpang 3 Keratong covering 51km; and the Rantau Panjang–Golok Phase 2 flood mitigation project costing about RM897 million.

Ismail Sabri said the government had also agreed for the border town development project, which includes a bridge connecting Rantau Panjang to Sungai Golok and the Takbai bridge which connects Pengkalan Kubor to Takbai.

He added that this showed that the federal government was fair to all state governments.

It is learnt that the LPT3 project would cover about 147km involving Gemuruh in Terengganu to Pengkalan Kubor, Kelantan.

Phase One of the flood mitigation project was about 60 per cent completed and it would solve flood-related problems in Rantau Panjang and the surrounding areas. - NST
