Probe Nik Abduh on wedding favour allegation: Guan Eng to MACC

DAP leader Lim Guan Eng has called on the MACC to probe Bachok MP Nik Mohamad Abduh Nik Abdul Aziz regarding abuse of power allegations over the wedding of the PAS lawmaker’s son.

He said the MACC could also raid the Kota Bharu Municipal Council-Islamic City (KBMC) as part of its investigation.

“The MACC had just raided the Shah Alam City Council (MBSA) on Sept 19, believed to be regarding a flood barrier project.

“Will the MACC do the same after KBMC president Rosnazli Amin confirmed receiving a request for cooperation from Nik Abduh?” asked Lim in a statement.

This came after Malaysiakini reported that in a letter signed by Nik Abduh (above, right) dated Sept 20, he asked KBMC to provide waste management services, tables, chairs, and flower decorations for his son’s wedding.

“The event would have been held on Sept 24 in the car park of Masjid Tok Guru and Sekolah Menengah Agama (Arab) Darul Anuar.

“However, Rosnazli has piqued public interest by refusing to confirm a simple question as to whether KBMC approved the request for cooperation by Nik Abduh.

“Nik Abduh’s request for cooperation from KBMC gives rise to disturbing questions of abuse of power when Nik Abduh used his official letterhead as Bachok MP,” said Lim (above, left).

He said Nik Abduh should explain what he meant by requesting cooperation from KBMC for the wedding.

Don’t practice double standards

“Normally these services from local councils can be provided for a fee or at specified rental rates that are offered to all. Nik Abduh did not offer to pay any fees or rental rates in his official letter.

“There is no need for Nik Abduh to use his official letterhead and status of Bachok MP to seek KBMC’s cooperation for a private family event not related to his public duty to his voters.

“That is why MACC should investigate Nik Abduh and possibly raid KBMC to see whether there is any abuse of power by Nik Abduh or whether KBMC is trying to cover up co-operation provided by KBMC as requested by Nik Abduh,” said Lim.

He added that the MACC must show it does not practice double standards between KBMC and MBSA.

The letter to the local council, from former PAS Youth chief Nik Abduh, initially went viral on social media.

When asked if the council greenlit the lawmaker’s request, Rosnazli played coy.

“I did not even stamp my approval (on the letter),” he said when pressed on whether he approved the application. - Mkini
