Prove your worth by standing in Umno, PAS strongholds, Muda told

PETALING JAYA: Two Selangor PKR division leaders have challenged Muda to contest in Umno and PAS strongholds in the 15th general election to prove that it has a sincere purpose in wanting to join Pakatan Harapan (PH).

They said they did not want Muda to ride on the opposition coalition’s coattails and to contest only for safe seats.

Referring to the Johor election early this year, Hulu Selangor PKR chief Dr Sathia Prakash Nadarajan said Muda contested for safe seats and was therefore yet to be tested.

Muda deputy president Amira Aisya Abd Aziz won the Puteri Wangsa seat in the election. The party lost in six other contests.

Sathia said Muda should contest in Rembau, Pekan and Bagan Datuk, parliamentary seats currently held by Umno’s Khairy Jamaluddin, Najib Razak and Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, respectively.

“If Muda wants to join PH, it should contest for 15 unwinnable seats,” he told FMT.

Tanjong Karang PKR chief Yahya Mat Sahri said Muda needed to challenge itself by contesting in the east coast, where PH does not have much of a presence.

“Muda has got to be brave. It needs to show it has support,” he said.

Yahya, who is in the PKR central leadership council, acknowledged that DAP and Amanah might not be averse to accepting Muda in PH, but he said it should not insist on choosing the constituencies to contest in.

“It has to accept the seats PH gives it,” he said.

The PH presidential council received an official application from Muda to join the coalition last Friday. - FMT
