Bung sidelined as BN moves to mend ties with Sabah CM

BN appears to be sidelining its Sabah chief Bung Moktar Radin in an attempt to mend ties with Sabah Chief Minister Hajiji Noor who heads the ruling party Gabungan Rakyat Sabah (GRS).

BN secretary-general Zambry Abdul Kadir announced that Sabah BN deputy chief Yakub Khan will be the coalition’s liaison in negotiations with the state’s coalition government.

He also announced that BN has decided to support the Sabah coalition government headed by Hajiji.

“This stand (to support the GRS government) is in line with the stance of parties at the federal level who have formed the federal coalition government,” Zambry said in a statement today.

Last month, Bung (above) - who is also the Sabah Umno chief - withdrew BN’s support for Hajiji in an attempted political coup.

However, the attempt was foiled when five Sabah Umno assemblypersons went rogue and announced they would continue to support the chief minister.

This led to Bung and Yakub losing their posts in the state government as Hajiji carried out a reshuffle of the state cabinet.

Zambry’s statement today comes a day after Sabah MCA said it would also continue supporting Hajiji.

Sabah MCA chief Lu Yen Tung also distanced himself from last month's coup.

“Never once has Sabah MCA been involved in any attempt to oust the state government led by Hajiji,” Lu said.

Sabah MCA has no seats in the Sabah legislature, meaning its support one way or another would not have any impact on the chief minister’s ability to command a majority. - Mkini
