Umno vice-president Mohamed Khaled Nordin has advised the party's women's wing to use the upcoming Umno polls to choose their leader.
This comes after certain quarters in Wanita Umno reportedly called for the wing chief Noraini Ahmad to step down and not defend her position.
"I believe there is no need to urge (Noraini to step down) as the polls will come soon.
"If you do not like her, do not vote for her. What is so difficult about that?" Khaled was quoted as saying by The Star.
Khaled, who is higher education minister, spoke to reporters during a visit to Universiti Teknologi Malaysia in Johor earlier today.
Two days ago, Kota Melaka Wanita Umno division leader Haryati Hamdzah claimed that many of the wing's division chiefs wanted former Wanita Umno chief Shahrizat Abdul Jalil to return and lead them.
Following this, a news portal reported that the Titiwangsa Wanita Umno had allegedly urged Noraini to resign.
However, Titiwangsa Wanita Umno chief Mar Dg Matrok denied this, saying that the individual issuing the statement against Noraini was not an office bearer in the division. - Mkini
