Facing two counts of corruption charges, Tasek Gelugor MP Wan Saiful Wan Jan has offered to step down from his position as Bersatu information chief.
He said his offer was made in line with a personal stance to not be likened to a list of politicians - mostly now in government - branded as the "court cluster".
"I propose that I be replaced with another eligible individual from our party (Bersatu) and for the matter to be decided by the party leaders," Wan Saiful (above) said during a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.
"The position of information chief is an executive position in the party... I offer to let go of the position because that has been my stance all this while until I can clear my name via the legal process.
"So no party should ever liken me to any individuals from the court cluster," he added.
Wan Saiful's first charge is for soliciting a bribe of an unspecified amount and the second charge is for receiving a bribe of RM6.96 million.
These bribes were alleged to be for helping a company - Nepturis Sdn Bhd - secure a project called "Central Spine Road: Sertik Ke Persimpangan Lebuhraya Pantai Timur" from the federal government through pre-qualification. - Mkini
