Former Bersatu vice-president Mohd Rafiq Naizamohideen has been re-admitted to Umno.
In a statement, Rafiq said his application to rejoin Umno was approved by the Umno supreme council last night.
"I am aware that my decision to join Umno now will not be popular. Some will not agree or accept it.
"However, I believe that my political career, which is full of challenges since the beginning, which today has taken me back to Umno, is the will of Allah," he said.
Rafiq (above) quit Bersatu in October last year after the party dropped him as a candidate for GE15. Between 2018 and 2021, he was part of the Malacca cabinet.
During the 2021 Malacca election, Rafiq failed to retain the Paya Rumput seat.
Rafiq said he was not returning to Umno just because the party was part of the federal government.
"My friends and I had already decided to leave Bersatu and support Umno before the 15th general election.
"At the time, we didn't know who would be in government," he said. - Mkini
