PETALING JAYA: Employers from three subsectors in the service and agriculture sectors can now submit applications for foreign worker quotas, says the human resources ministry.

In a statement, the ministry said applications for these subsectors were opened on Jan 25, with three different ministries supervising applications.

The three subsectors are laundry, scrap metal and walet bird’s nest. Applications will be supervised by the domestic trade and cost of living, home affairs, as well as agriculture and food security ministries, respectively.

“Employers in these subsectors can submit migrant worker recruitment applications through the Foreign Work Centralised Management System (FWCMS) platform under the FWe Approval module to obtain the Peninsular Malaysia labour department (JTKSM) director-general’s approval.

“The employers can then submit quota applications through the eQuota module after obtaining the JTKSM director-general’s approval,” it said.

Last month, Putrajaya announced that 500,000 foreign workers will be brought into the country from 15 source countries in Asia to be placed in sectors of no interest to local workers, including plantation, agriculture and construction.

The government has also loosened conditions for the hiring of migrant workers, though this is limited to the manufacturing, construction, plantation, agriculture, as well as food and beverage industries. - FMT
