Sacked Umno leader Khairy Jamaluddin can prove that he is really a "magnet" for youth support by forming his own political party, said Puad Zarkashi today.
The Umno supreme council member said this in a Facebook posting, in a jibe aimed at party vice-president Ismail Sabri Yaakob who yesterday criticised the Umno leadership's decision to give Khairy the boot two weeks ago.
"Ismail Sabri said KJ is a magnet and it was a loss for Umno to sack a magnet who could attract youth support.
"When KJ was the Umno Youth chief, did he bring in many youths to support Umno? The youth may have supported KJ, but not Umno.
"KJ is also not appealing his sacking. So why not form a new party? Then we can see if the youth would join the new party in droves to support the 'magnet' KJ," said Puad.
Puad added that should KJ have no courage to set up a new party, then the former Rembau MP can choose to join either Bersatu or PAS to prove his worth.
He also quipped that Ismail Sabri, who was BN's prime minister candidate for last year’s general election, should have let Khairy take the poster boy role instead.
"Since he said KJ is like a magnet (to get support), it was a loss for Umno if this was true," he said.
Yesterday, Ismail Sabri reportedly said that Umno would face difficulties in regaining youth support following the party’s move to sack openly critical leaders, including Khairy. - Mkini
