PETALING JAYA: Natural resources, environment and climate change minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad has defended the delay in drawing up the national climate change bill, saying he did not want to rush legislation.
Nik Nazmi said it was pointless to have a bill for the sake of it, although such a bill was important.
“We want a bill that is not toothless, that is comprehensive and will be truly impactful,” he tweeted yesterday.
He was responding to netizens voicing their disappointment over the bill’s delayed timeline, and having to wait longer despite the bill being initiated in 2018 when Pakatan Harapan was in power.
Earlier, Nik Nazmi told the Dewan Rakyat it would take two to three years to complete the bill and that the ministry was in its early stages of drawing it up. - FMT
