PETALING JAYA: Borders Bookstore Malaysia will cease operations in Malaysia on Aug 31, more than 10 years after the original American book retailer closed down.
The management of Berjaya Books Sdn Bhd, which operates Borders in Malaysia, thanked customers for supporting the bookstore through the years.
“We are truly grateful for the trust and loyalty you have shown us and we would not have been able to come this far without you.
“Although our journey is coming to an end, our commitment to our customers remains unchanged. We will ensure that you receive the best customer service until the very end,” it said in a notice at the Bangsar Village 2 Borders outlet.
The Bangsar Village 2 outlet will close after July 31.
Meanwhile, checks on the Borders Malaysia website found that its online store had been closed since May 31.
Borders Group Inc filed for bankruptcy in February 2011 and later liquidated all its stores. All its outlets in the US had shuttered operations by September that year.
Borders Malaysia is operated by Berjaya Books, a subsidiary of Berjaya Corporation Bhd. - FMT
