KUALA LUMPUR: Dewan Rakyat Speaker Johari Abdul has named the 10 MPs who will chair parliamentary select committees (PSC) during the current term of the Dewan Rakyat.
Johari said the MPs, from the government and opposition blocs, will complement the government’s efforts to resolve issues that arise in order to develop the country.
“They can discuss all relevant issues under their terms of reference without referring to the ministers first. However, it cannot involve matters discussed or that will be discussed by the Public Accounts Committee,” he told a press conference at Parliament today.
The 10 MPs include Shahar Abdullah (BN-Paya Besar) as finance and economy PSC chairman; Dzulkefly Ahmad (PH-Kuala Selangor/health) and William Leong (PH-Selayang/ human rights, elections and institutional reforms).
Also listed are Cha Kee Chin (PH-Rasah/domestic trade, entrepreneurship, cost of living and agriculture), Yusuf Abd Wahab (GPS-Tanjong Manis/infrastructure, transport and communications) and Saifuddin Abdullah (PN-Indera Mahkota/nation-building, education and human resource development).
The others are Yeo Bee Yin (PH-Puchong/women, children and community development), Ahmad Amzad Hashim (PN-Kuala Terengganu/environment, science and plantation), Jonathan Yasin (GRS-Ranau/security) and Wong Chen (PH-Subang/international relations and international trade).
Johari said the committees will be supported by a secretariat provided by Parliament, which comprises two officers or researchers who will serve full-time. - FMT
