MACC examines documents allegedly linking PN to gaming funds

Businessman Rashdan Yusof lodged a report with MACC last week, claiming he has evidence to prove PN’s connection with gaming companies.

PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) is studying documents that allegedly prove that Perikatan Nasional received funds from gaming companies for the last general election.

In a statement, MACC senior investigations director Hishamuddin Hashim said it will look into the backgrounds of companies mentioned in a report filed a week ago.

He said a thorough investigation was being conducted.

This comes after businessman Rashdan Yusof lodged a report with MACC last Tuesday claiming that he had evidence to prove PN’s connection with the gaming companies.

Rashdan claimed the information he had was “supported by documents”. He also said he was not associated with any political party or NGO.

In December 2022, Malaysiakini quoted Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim as implying that PN’s funds for its election campaign partly came from gaming companies, particularly those that took part in “special draws” for 4D numbers.

Anwar’s deputy, Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, reportedly echoed the prime minister’s statement and claimed he was confident the “other side” had gained funds from the gaming companies.

On May 25, law and institutional reform minister Azalina Othman Said told the Dewan Rakyat MACC had conducted a detailed study regarding the information provided on the allegation, but found it to be “too general”.

Subsequently, no investigation papers were opened into the matter, she said.

PN chairman Muhyiddin Yassin then said the coalition will consider taking legal action against Anwar and Zahid over their remarks, claiming they were defamatory. - FMT
