July 20 for case management to fix trial dates of Lim-Muhyiddin suit

The civil court has set July 20 for case management to fix full trial dates for former finance minister Lim Guan Eng’s defamation suit against ex-prime minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The former Penang chief minister’s counsel, Guok Ngek Seong, said that the High Court in Kuala Lumpur this morning fixed the case management date for the lawsuit over the issue of revocation of the tax-exemption status of Yayasan Al-Bukhary.

“The court directed the parties to file the common bundle of documents, bundle of pleadings, agreed facts, and issues to be tried before July 20.

“The next case management is scheduled July 20 for the court's further directions and fixing of trial dates,” the lawyer told the media after case management before judicial commissioner Roz Mawar Rozain.

On March 27, Bagan MP Lim (above, leftfiled a defamation suit over Pagoh MP Muhyiddin’s alleged libellous accusation.

The civil action was over the former prime minister’s allegation that Lim was responsible for Yayasan Albukhary - headed by tycoon Syed Mokhtar Albukhary - losing its tax-exempt status during the plaintiff’s tenure helming the Finance Ministry.

In April through his statement of defence, Bersatu president Muhyiddin (above) wanted DAP chairperson Lim to prove in court that the ministry did not revoke the foundation's tax-exempt status.

The Perikatan Nasional chairperson expressed his doubt over the veracity of the ministry’s statement in March, saying neither the ministry nor its officers had revoked the exemption.

Then in his reply last month, Lim questioned why Muhyiddin did not raise the issue when both of them were part of the then Mahathir Mohamad-led administration, pointing out the timing of the allegation being raised when the defendant was facing criminal charges.

During the Harapan administration from 2018 and 2020, Lim helmed the Finance Ministry while Muhyiddin was home minister. - Mkini
