PN confident of capturing Selangor due to increased voters' support - Afif

Selangor Perikatan Nasional liaison secretary Dr Afif Bahardin is confident the coalition can capture the state due to “increasing support" from voters.

Speaking at a press conference on the eve of a PN convention, Afif also vouched for the coalition's candidates as being "experienced professionals".

"Rhetorically speaking, we aim to win all (56) state seats in the Selangor legislative assembly, but we are aware of the challenges that await.

"We present to the people of Selangor election candidates who have no court cases against them, and who are professionals and experienced," he said in Shah Alam today.

Afif (above) noted that it is crucial for PN to show the people in the state that the coalition is capable of forming a stable and efficient government.

"Support for us (PN) increased after the last general election, thanks to new voters.

"If you ask me, we are confident (of winning the state polls). PN can form the state government with the support of Selangor voters," he added.

‘Chinese unhappy with DAP’

Meanwhile, Selangor Gerakan Youth secretary Chai Ko Thing, who was also present at the press conference, said that PN is capable of serving all Malaysians, rather than the Malay electorate as some claimed.

This is because even the Chinese are dissatisfied with DAP, which is a part of the coalition government, he claimed.

"Gerakan carried out a survey on the Chinese community's level of support for DAP, and found that many were unhappy with the party," he said.

State assembly dissolution

The 14th Selangor state assembly was officially dissolved today, paving the way for state polls.

A caretaker state administration will govern until a new one is formed after the polls.

In the 14th general election, Pakatan Harapan dominated the state assembly after winning 51 seats, followed by BN with four seats and PAS with one.

However, the composition of the state assembly before the dissolution saw Harapan holding 40 seats (PKR-19, DAP-15, Amanah-six), BN (five), Bersatu (four), Parti Bangsa Malaysia (PBM) (two), while PAS, Pejuang, and Warisan have one each, along with one independent representative.

The Batang Kali seat, however, was declared vacant after the elected representative failed to attend the assembly sitting for over six months.

PN convention

The PN convention tomorrow will be attended by top leaders including chairperson Muhyiddin Yassin, Gerakan president Dominic Lau, and PAS secretary-general Takiyuddin Hassan.

When asked, Afif refused to divulge the seat allocation breakdown.

He, however, confirmed that all components under the coalition will contest under the PN flag. - Mkini
