Zuraida's verdict lesson for 'traitors', says PKR sec-gen

PKR secretary-general Saifuddin Nasution Ismail today said the party will not readmit any of its former leaders or members who had in the past betrayed the party.

Taking to Facebook, Saifuddin (above) said the Kuala Lumpur High Court verdict against former PKR vice-president Zuraida Kamarudin - who was ordered to pay RM10 million to the party for breaching her bond - should be taken as a lesson for traitors.

"The lesson here is: do not betray (the party). The happiness is only temporary.

"Now more of her (Zuraida) supporters are applying to rejoin the party. But sorry, joining the party is not like changing clothes," said Saifuddin.

The home minister said PKR will proceed with legal actions against other former leaders and members who had triggered or supported the Sheraton Move in 2020 that led to the fall of the then-Pakatan Harapan government.

"In GE14, a decision was made for all PKR candidates to sign a bond... that if they left the party after they have won, they must pay the party RM10 million.

"A number of PKR MPs had left the party (in 2020). So as the secretary-general, I initiated legal actions against them," said Saifuddin.

"We started with Zuraida. And we won. The next step is against other PKR MPs who also left.

"The case facts are the same. Insya-Allah, we have a good chance of winning," he said.

This morning, Kuala Lumpur High Court judge Akhtar Tahir allowed PKR’s suit against Zuraida after finding that the bond was a valid and binding contract.

The court also ordered Zuraida to pay RM50,000 in costs.

Zuraida, along with 11 other MPs led by former PKR deputy president Azmin Ali, left the party in February 2020 to support Bersatu, Umno-BN, and GPS in forming Perikatan Nasional. - Mkini
