The contest, dubbed the 'Cosplay Parade', was held during the Mahathir 101: Piknik Legasi event at Taman Lagenda today, with children recreating the couple's signature looks and outfits.
Event organiser Muhammad Alif Aiman Azman said the contest was initially open to both adults and children, but only entries for the children's category were received.
"It was a Tun Dr Mahathir and Tun Siti Hasmah lookalike contest, where participants mimicked the duo's signature styles," he told the New Straits Times.
Alif said 15 children took part, with two boys dressed as Mahathir and 13 girls as Siti Hasmah.
Five winners were selected, with the contest judged by Mahathir's eldest daughter, Datin Paduka Marina Mahathir, and a Langkawi local who preferred to be identified as Kak Yong.
A video shared on Threads by @amofficialmy earlier showing the young participants in their outfits quickly caught users' attention.
"The first one's styling is so cute. She just forgot the spectacles," one user said.
Another said the girls showed "great potential", while another described the scene as "cuteness overload".
The four-hour event featured a public picnic-themed potluck to mark Mahathir's 101st birthday and commemorate his legacy in Langkawi's development.
More than 1,000 people attended the event, which also featured a podcast session with Mahathir, a colouring contest, exhibitions and vendors.
Mahathir, who served as Langkawi member of parliament from 2018 to 2022, celebrated his 101st birthday on July 10. - NST
