Cops probing alleged stray dog attack on 2-year-old

The girl’s grandmother says the child was transferred to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru due to the severity of her injuries.

The victim’s grandmother said that the girl had been placed in an induced coma.
PETALING JAYA:
Police have launched an investigation after a two-year-old girl was allegedly attacked by stray dogs near her grandmother’s house in Sungai Kelambu, Johor, yesterday morning.

Batu Pahat police chief Shahrulannuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani confirmed receiving a report over the incident and said the case is being probed under the Child Act 2001, Berita Harian reported.

The Malay daily reported the child’s grandmother, Darlinda Darlis, as saying that the incident happened around 7am after her granddaughter, Nur Haira Watikah Hazimi, and her siblings were dropped off at her house.

She said that she had left Nur Haira with the other children while she took a shower. However, later the two-year-old was missing and Darlinda discovered that the front door was open.

She said she then saw her grandchild being attacked by about five dogs outside the house. The child suffered serious injuries to her head and face.

Darlinda said her son immediately took the child to Sultanah Nora Ismail Hospital, where she was treated in the red zone and had to be placed in an induced coma.

“Not long after that, Nur Haira was transferred to Sultanah Aminah Hospital in Johor Bahru due to the severity of her injuries,” she was quoted as saying.

Darlinda said the stray dogs were believed to have been abandoned by people who hunted wild boar in a nearby oil palm plantation. - FMT
