PETALING JAYA:
Education minister Fadhlina Sidek has vowed that no Tamil vernacular school, or SJKT, will be closed under the Madani government.

She said the government would instead focus on the development and maintenance of all schools, as well as programmes to strengthen teachers and pupils.

“I need to reiterate this because I think there are still members of the public who believe that these (SJKT) schools will be closed and so on.

“We assure you that no SJKT will be shut down,” she told reporters after the handover of a letter of acceptance (SST) and groundbreaking ceremony for SJKT Sungai Bakap in Nibong Tebal today.

Fadhlina, who is Nibong Tebal MP, said the government would ensure that all schools received attention in terms of development, maintenance and programmes aimed at strengthening teachers and pupils.

On Friday, Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said the Indian community would never be marginalised under the Madani government’s development agenda.

Anwar said this had been addressed through engagements with Indian community leaders to review the progress of the government’s agenda and hear their views and concerns.

He also said various efforts had been mobilised in education, entrepreneurship, microfinancing, welfare and cash assistance to ease the burden on families and improve living standards. - FMT
