UiTM halts endurance event over entrant's death; Abim rebukes PAS Youth

Student death

  • Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) has cancelled its Komander Kesatria Endurance Challenge 2026 outdoor competition scheduled for today following the death of a participant from its Negeri Sembilan branch.

In a statement, UiTM said it was giving full attention to the welfare of the late Fadhlan Fakhry Solana Fellimal’s family and had mobilised assistance to manage his remains, documentation, and transportation, as well as provide emotional support.

The annual programme, which brings together Komander Kesatria from UiTM branches nationwide, was scheduled from Sept 2 to 8 at its Jengka campus in Pahang.

UiTM said the programme was conducted under strict health and safety standard operating procedures, with all participants required to undergo health examinations before the programme and periodic screenings before each event.

It said several participants had previously been asked to withdraw after failing the final health screening.

Islamic affairs

  • The Malaysian Islamic Youth Movement (Abim) has criticised Kedah PAS Youth chief Ilyas Ahmad’s use of the phrase “penunggang agama” (religion exploiter) at the PAS Youth muktamar, urging him to withdraw the remark and apologise.

In a statement, Abim deputy president Saifuddin Abdul Latiff said that even if the phrase was intended as a jibe at political critics, it blurred the distinction between an Islam-guided struggle and exploiting religion for political purposes.

He said sarcasm did not absolve leaders of their responsibility to uphold proper conduct and respond to criticism with reasoned arguments.

Saifuddin added that leaders who carry Islam’s name should ensure their conduct reflects their message, warning that coarse language could undermine their credibility and set a poor example, particularly for young people. - Mkini
