Hasan Ali: Bersih 3.0 opposition publicity stunt

Jati chief Hasan Ali said his pressure group is not thrilled with the upcoming Bersih 3.0 rally claiming it was a ploy to “fish for attention” towards the opposition.

“Jati is not very comfortable with the call for the rakyat to gather on April 28 for the third Bersih rally.

NONE“In Jati’s view, the gathering is nothing more than to fish for the people’s attention to support the organisers, a large portion of which comprises opposition members,” said the sacked PAS commissioner in a statement today.

“Jati is worried that the people are being used for certain parties’ political interests,” he said in a statement today.

Taking great pains to say Jati supported clean and fair elections, Hasan said not only Bersih was interested in electoral reform, but “others” whom he said had formed the parliamentary select committee (PSC) to address the issue in a “serious” manner.

He added that any issue yet to be addressed can still be “discussed”.

The former Selangor exco also called on students not to be “used” by the opposition to attend the rally to be held in Dataran Merdeka in Kuala Lumpur.

bersih general election demand launch 300911 ambiga 03Bersih, the coalition for free and fair elections, had resorted to calling for the sit-in after the PSC had failed to address nor implement most of its recommendations for electoral reform.

The PSC was formed after the massive Bersih 2.0 rally was held last July 9 that saw an estimate 50,000 walk the streets of the capital.

Bersih 2.0 co-chairperson Ambiga Sreenevasan (left) has recently expressed disappointment with the PSC for failing to emphasise in its report that the EC must implement its core recommendations before the next general election.
Denying allegations such as Hasan's that the opposition was behind the movement, Ambiga had said, "I assure you the we are very strong civil society NGOs and we are clear about our agenda."
