Umno minister denies paying actress, threatens to sue

Breaking a week-long silence, an Umno minister has denied claims that he was paying huge sums of money to a local actress allegedly in an “intimate relationship” with him.

shafie apdal and mps no defection pc 280808 01“All the information written in that police report are absolutely false and other statements by other individuals who distributed the police report are ill-intentioned and for political purposes,” Rural and Regional Development Minister Shafie Apdal (right) said in a statement posted on his official microblogging site Twitterat 4.34pm today.
Shafie said his denial follows recent developments concerning a police report by a driver who had accused him of making the payments.

The Umno vice-president also vowed to take legal action against anybody who continued to slander and implicate him in the matter.
In a series of tweets last week, the MP for Semporna deflected the allegations, but he did not respond to press inquiries on the matter.
'The work of those unhappy with me'
Shafie called the claims asam garam (the realities) of politics and the work of those unhappy with him.

“I don’t have that much money. Those are all purely slander,” he had tweeted.

The minister tweeted this in response to queries and good wishes from his supporters that poured in after the allegations were made public.

NONEOne even expressed hope that the claims against him would not become a second NFC scandal.

@mohdshafieapdal harap2 issue (gossip) murah mcm ne, x melarat seperti issue kak jatt..# selamatkanBN,” (@mohdshafieapdal hope the cheap gossip issue would not drag on like the issue involving Shahrizat Abdul Jalil... save BN) tweeted a user named Dara Efftissa.

Others are gunning for him to sue those who levelled the allegations.

“Good answer but many are waiting for you to sue Zuraida. - Susan,” said user Kritis Online.
The matter surfaced last week when the opposition PKR picked up on a police report alleging that a federal minister paid popular local actress Zahida Rafik up to RM1.5 million during their three-year “intimate relationship”.

PKR Wanita chief Zuraida Kamaruddin revealed last Wednesday that Zahida’s driver, Noor Azman Azemi, had made a police report claiming that the actress received the payout over a span of four months.

Zahida has already denied the claims and also threatened legal action against the accusers.

“I haven’t been doing nothing about it. My lawyers are settling the matter right now actually!

"So let them, okay! Wait for the good news, okay!” Zahida said in response to her fans on Twitter.
