Look out for fuel price cut ahead of polls

Look out for fuel price cut ahead of polls
Following the move to slash prices of cars from Japan and Australia, PAS said it expects Barisan Nasional to pre-empt Pakatan Rakyat’s plan in its manifesto to lower fuel price ahead of the 13th general election.
“We believe many ideas in PR’s manifesto will be plagiarised by BN since they have run out of ideas on matters related to public interest,” said PAS information chief Tuan Ibrahim Tuan Man.
Yesterday, International Trade and Industry Minister Mustapa Mohamad announced a new automative policy, which would see zero duties on cars made in Japan and Australia after three years.
While Domestic Trade, Cooperatives and Consumerism minister Ismail Sabri announced that East Malaysians will enjoy uniform prices of essential goods under the '1Malaysia 1Price' programme.
Tuan Ibrahim said the announcement to streamline prices of goods had already been announced by PR earlier when it proposed to do away with the cabotage policy which results in higher cost of shipping to East Malaysia which is reflected in retail prices there.
Tuan Ibrahim predicted that more PR-inspired offers would be announced by BN in the coming weeks.
The Pahang PAS commissioner recalled how BN had made such 'copycat' acts in the past, including the five-day work week and 90-day maternity which were first introduced by the Kelantan state government.
“Based on that experience, it is not impossible that they will lower oil price to get public support. We stick to our pledge, no matter how much they reduce (the price), PR will still lower it below market price when we are the government,” stressed Tuan Ibrahim.
