Liow non-committal on working with Soi Lek

Following today’s extraordinary general meeting (EGM), MCA deputy president Liow Tiong Lai stopped short of saying whether he would work together with president Dr Chua Soi Lek in his call for party members to set aside their differences.

At a press conference today, he said “I call upon all MCA member to set aside their differences. Now is the time to work together without factions and strengthen MCA.”

However when asked whether he can work with Chua, he did not answer the question and only reiterated his call to close ranks.

NONEHe did not answer a subsequent question on whether he would extend the olive branch to Chua.

When asked to comment on the MCA delegate’s rejection of the resolution to accept cabinet positions, Liow said that this is the will of the delegates.

He said when he was meeting grassroots members throughout the country, the feedback he received is that MCA should be in no hurry to rejoin the cabinet, and this is a matter to be handled by the next cadre of leaders.

Liow also said he is willing to improve himself, in view of the fact that 965 delegates voted in favour of censuring him, although 1,190 delegates voted against this.
