MCA's infighting heats up with the latest allegation of inconsistencies in MCA's accounts and demands for party leader Datuk Seri Chua Soi Lek to come clean today.
MCA Safeguard Party Assets Committee chairman Datuk Yew Teong Lock said The Star, which is owned by the party, had collected more than RM759 million since the party took over the reins in 2010.
As MCA owns 42% of shares in the publication, the party's share of the dividend should be RM319 million instead of the RM107 million stated by Chua during Batu Pahat MCA division's general meeting on Sept 22.
"We demand the president explain to us what happened to the remaining RM212 million," said Yew at a briefing and press conference held at a hotel opposite Wisma MCA.
Bangi land sold to Mah Sing Group
Yew took potshots at Chua, cheered on by some 300 MCA members who shouted references to an infamous CD of the president in response.
He also questioned the sale of a plot of land in Bangi to property developer Mah Sing Group for RM8 million when the party was supposed to be flush with cash.
The land was donated by the late Tan Sri Loh Boon Siew for the party to set up a second headquarters along with a training centre and approximately RM4.5 million was raised for the project.
Yew asked what happened to the money and said Chua had misled the party's central committee members in approving the sale.
"Therefore, we demand that the donations (raised for the project) be used to repurchase the land as a matter of pride and dignity," said Yew.
He repeated his call for MCA's accounts to be managed professionally by lawyers and accountants for the sake of transparency.
Yew also said Chua shouldn't be blaming his deputy Datuk Seri Liow Tiong Lai for MCA's poor showing in the 13th general election as the president gets the final say on candidates and strategy.
