Another Terengganu Crisis in the Making?

LATEST - The Star online reported that the Barisan Nasional Bukit Besi assemblyman, Roslee Daud, has quit Umno Tuesday morning, joining ex-Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Ahmad Said and Ajil assemblyman Ghazali Taib to become independent reps.

ORIGINAL POST

COULD the Barisan Nasional be losing grips on Terengganu?

Could this be another bala’ for the luckless Prime Minister, Mohd Najib Abdul Razak?

The online media has reported that the axed Terengganu Menteri Besar, Ahmad Said, has left Umno and declared himself an independent state assemblyman.

Ahmad is said to have been joined by the Ajil Assemblyman and exco member, Ghazali Taib. Reports say more could be joining them.

They did so hours after Ahmad was replaced by the Seberang Takir State Assemblyman, Ahmad Razif Abd  Rahman, as Menteri Besar yesterday evening.

Technically, the BN is now down by two seats in the state assembly and that puts it on par with the opposition Pakatan Rakyat (PR).

In the May 5, 2013 general elections the BN won 17 seats and the PR won 14 via PAS and one through PKR.

And could the impossible happen - PAS joining Umno in forming a coalition government in the state?

Or will Terengganu be mired in yet another political crisis reminiscence of the 1960’s and 70’s?

If Ahmad and Ghazali persisted with their decision of leaving Umno and declaring themselves independent assemblymen, the PR could demand to form the state government.

It could also ask for a special session of the state assembly to pass a no confidence vote against the new Menteri Besar as he does not have a majority in the assembly.

The situation would be worse for the BN if indeed more Umno assemblymen follow Ahmad's and Ghazali's footsteps.

Still this is a developing situation. Politicians can change their decisions at will if the “price” is right. It is often said that a politician we could trust is a dead one. Wallahualklam.
