Intense discussion among Terengganu Umno representatives could see at least one of the three assemblypersons who resigned from Umno returning to the party's fold.
Sources say that Bukit Besi assemblyperson Roslee Daud (below)is expected to retract his resignation later today.
"He is planning to retract the resignation later today. The letter did not even make it to the Umno secretary general," an Umno representative privy to the discussions told Malaysiakini.
"There has been discussions the whole day and we hope to have also convinced the other two (who resigned from Umno) to retract their resignations.
"They are both Umno fighters and had helped build Terengganu Umno so it is unlikely that they would want to see it all collapse now."
This comes as Terengganu BN assemblypersons gather in Kuala Lumpur in hopes of meeting Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"The assemblypersons are in Kuala Lumpur to raise their grouses with Najib and they hope the PM can lift their spirits," the source, who spoke on condition of anonymity said.
"It is just like children wanting to meet their father. Nothing more than that."
However, it is understood that no appointment has been set with the PM, who is scheduled to be in Kuantan tonight.
Star citing sources reported that Najib is due to meet all assemblypersons tomorrow.
Roslee could not be contacted for comment while his aide said that there will be no response from his side "until everything is sorted out".
Roslee announced his resignation this morning, after former Terengganu menteri besar Ahmad Said and Ajil assemblyperson Ghazali Taib.
Ahmad and Ghazali could also not be reached.
No one else quitting
The developments punctures the sails of what was shaping up to be a crisis that could see the collapse of the BN Terengganu government.
Following today's discussion, the Umno representative said, there will be no more assemblypersons from the state announcing their resignations.
"I believe the only person who is sore is Ahmad (left) and the Ajil rep is his follower," he said.
However, if only Roslee returns to Umno, the state assembly will be hung with 15 BN, 15 Pakatan Rakyat and two Independent assemblypersons.
"But we have the Speaker on our side," the Umno representative said, echoing the Terengganu state legal adviser's view that the Speaker is counted as a BN assemblyperson.
Unlike the defections which led to the 2009 Perak constitutional crisis, there has been no horse-trading between BN and Pakatan.
Umno central leadership have called for calm and downplayed the situations as being under control.
News portal FZ.com also cited Umno top brass sources as saying that Ahmad's reaction was expected and that "the president (Najib) is fine".
Pakatan, which is made up of 14 PAS and 1 PKR assemblypersons, said that it will not persuade the representatives to join Pakatan and will leave it to Umno to sort it out themselves.
It will also not seek an audience with the sultan to seek a dissolution of the assembly despite currently holding 15 seats against BN's 14.
