Let exco man jump queue, dept tells staff

If Malacca Health and Sports Development executive councillor Abdul Rahman Abdul Karim comes to a pharmacy in the state, he must be allowed to jump queue.

And here's a photograph of him, just in case pharmacy operators do not recognise him.

This is the gist of an internal directive issued by the Malacca Health Department to the heads of the state's pharmacy facilities.

The directive has been leaked online and is now circulating on Facebook and blogs.

According to the April 22 directive marked "Important", this was after a complaint that Abdul Rahman (left) had to wait to collect his prescription at a state pharmacy.

"All heads of pharmacy facilities are asked to inform all staff, especially front line staff, to take note of any prescription orders for Ab Rahman Ab Karim and to supply them to the patient immediately.

"He is the health and sports development exco member.

"There has been a complaint that pharmacy staff do not know who he is and gave him slow service...

"Attached is a picture of the exco member for your attention. Please ensure that the picture is put up on all notice boards in your facilities as reference," the directive read.

The directive was also extended to all services provided in government health clinics and hospitals.

Health Ministry investigating

Malaysiakini has confirmed the authenticity of the directive and understands that the Health Ministry had sought an explanation from the Malacca Health Department on the matter.

When contacted, the Malacca Health Department advised the news portal to contact the deputy director in charge of pharmacy tomorrow as she is on leave today.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Dr S Subramaniam said the ministry will investigate the matter.

"I have asked my DG (Health Ministry director-general) to investigate and respond to this," he said in a text message.

Abdul Rahman has not responded to multiple requests for comments.
