Berjasa president Mohd Yusuf Harun says that the party will convene a meeting tomorrow to decide on the candidate.
IPOH: Barisan Jamaah Islamiyah SeMalaysia (Berjasa) today announced it would contest the Teluk Intan parliamentary by-election, polling for which is on May 31.
Its president, Mohd Yusuf Harun, said the party would convene a meeting in Kuala Lumpur tomorrow to determine the candidate.
He said the party had decided to be active in the political arena after having been a passive observer of political developments.
The by-election has been necessitated by the death of the MP, Seah Leong Peng, 48, of the DAP, of cancer on May 1.
In George Town, DAP advisor Lim Kit Siang said today the party would announce its candidate for the by-election on Saturday.
He spoke to reporters while accompanying Ramkarpal Singh Deo, the party’s candidate for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary by-election on May 25, on a visit to the Farlim wet market.
Seah had won the Teluk Intan seat with a 7,313-vote majority in the 13 general election last year, beating Mah Siew Keong of the Barisan Nasional and independent K. Moralingam.
Nomination for the Teluk Intan by-election is on May 19.
