New Terengganu Menteri Besar Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman is on shaky grounds with rumours that four other Umno Terengganu assemblymen are expected to quit the party. – The Malaysian Insider pic, May 14, 2014.
A Terengganu Barisan Nasional assemblyman has dismissed rumours that he would follow his three Umno colleagues who quit the party and declared themselves as independent assemblymen.
Kemasik assemblyman Rosli Othman was quoted by Bernama as saying he was still with Umno, disputing a text message claiming that he would be among three more from Umno to quite the party.
Last night, Seberang Takir assemblyman Datuk Ahmad Razif Abdul Rahman was named the new menteri besar after Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak authorised a pre-signed resignation letter by incumbent Datuk Seri Ahmad Said.
Ahmad Razif was sworn in before the Sultan of Terengganu, but six Umno state representatives were absent from the ceremony.
The move to replace Ahmad Said prompted his resignation from Umno, followed by Ajil state assemblyman Ghazali Taib and Bukit Besi state assemblyman Roslee Daud.
The resignations leave BN with 14 seats in the assembly, against Pakatan Rakyat's 15 in the 32-seat assembly.
A Terengganu PAS leader told The Malaysian Insider that four more Umno state assemblymen were expected to quit the party, amid rumours that BN was seeking an audience with the Sultan to dissolve the assembly.
"I understand that Umno is working to dissolve the state assembly to allow state elections to be held again, but I would prefer a change of government like what happened to Perak," said Terengganu PAS election director Ariffin Deraman.
