Police say they had committed armed robberies in Johor and Pahang.
JOHOR BAHARU: Three robbery suspects died in a shootout with police during a car chase here last night.
Bernama quoted police as saying they believed the three had been committing armed robberies in Johor and Pahang in the last two years.
Deputy Inspector-General of Police Mohd Bakri Mohd Zinin said one of the suspects opened fire first.
He said two died at the Jalan Taman Desa-Tebrau junction during the shootout and one while being taken to the Sultan Ismail Hospital.
The policemen trailed them after receiving a tip-off, he told reporters here.
He said two semi-automatic pistols were found on the suspects.
The Toyota Vios they were riding in had been reported stolen in Teluk Intan, Perak, he added.
“They preyed on business outlets, particularly money changers,” he said.
He also said police arrested eight men aged between 26 and 38 and found robbery tools at several locations after the shootout.
