Zahid, don’t just import 1.5m foreign workers at your whim

YOURSAY | ‘It is clear as daylight that the DPM has no idea what he is doing.’
Doc: Apparently, Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi is cast from the same mould as his boss, Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak - both appear to us as dubious, assumed they are God's gift to the rakyat, and do not appear very bright.
Last week, Zahid said the local industry players were adamant that they want the 1.5 million Bangladeshi workers.
Two weeks before, he claimed we had no choice but to take the foreign workers in because Malaysians are lazy and don't want to do dirty work.
Earlier this week, he pointed out that Bangladesh was keen to send over the workers and that these workers are important to run the economy.
Yesterday, a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with the Bangladeshi government was signed.
Today, that bloke is saying all intake of foreign workers is on hold. It is clear as daylight that Zahid has no idea what he is doing.
The current Umno leadership is only good for one thing – impoverishing the country - and nothing else.
Abasir: So, "the actual manpower needs of industries" were never determined before the MOU was signed yesterday to bring in the 1.5 million Bangladeshis?
This must definitely be part of the Performance and Management Delivery Unit’s (Pemandu) 'People First, Performance Now' strategy.
Minister in the Prime Minister's Department Azalina Othman Said and Youth and Sports Minister Khairy Jamaluddin: what do you two have to say now?
Will you both be singing the "We have too many Bangladeshis and such" song?
And by the way, Human Resources Minister Richard Riot, have you or anyone in your ministry heard about a National Human Resource Strategy?
What is that you say... you need to go on a study tour to find out?
Hplooi: He is really playing a tit-for-tat game - which is unbecoming of a minister and a second-in-command, at that.
The predictable responses will be from the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) and the Master Builders Association Malaysia (MBAM) who - now hugely impacted - will demand a dialogue. The permanent-head-damaged DPM will then have his "I told you so" moment.
In reality, you cannot simply shut the gate just like that - and neither do you import the 1.5 million workers just at your whim.
Where is your national strategy vis-a-vis labour, industrialisation and local needs? With such an idiot (having a gangster’s mentality, too) possibly becoming the PM, Malaysia is doomed.
Negarawan: Less than 24 hours after signing the MOU with Bangladesh, the Umno government has now frozen it.
Now tell me, what type of government is this? It is quite obvious that it has no idea what it is doing.
No proper planning, no consultation with the stakeholders, no consideration of the millions of illegal Bangladeshi workers in the country, and the deep social and health problems they have brought.
From the high levies, the cronies probably stand to benefit billions of ringgit. This is yet another sign of a corrupt, incompetent and failed state!
Alamak: What a glorious way to start the Year of the Monkey.
First you make a monkey of yourself by signing the MOU, then you make a monkey of all the hopeful Bangladeshis and their government.
Worse still, you then proceed to make a monkey out of all Malaysians.
FairMind: Is this the calibre of our ministers? Implementing policies and signing agreements without making in-depth studies first, and then making another U-turn the next day?
Boeyks: The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing? This is how the government has been running since the Chosen One took control of it.
Gaji Buta: In the end, it will go ahead eventually as the agreement has already been signed. They are just delaying to appease the critics. -Mkini
