Dr Mahathir Mohamad has been accused of concocting tales about Tengku Razaleigh Hamzah informing him that a no confidence motion will be tabled to remove Prime Minister Najib Abdul Razak.
"I didn't see anything being circulated. Not at all. Even my friends and colleagues, other MPs from Umno and BN didn’t talk about this.
"I should know if there was, but there wasn't.
"These are all stories created by Mahathir," Deputy Agriculture and Agro-based Industries Minister Tajuddin Abdul Rahman told Malaysiakini.
On Saturday, Mahathir claimed that Tengku Razaleigh, who is also Gua Musang MP, had told him that a no-confidence vote would be tabled to take down Najib and proceeded to circulate a no-confidence declaration among the MPs.
"He (Tengku Razaleigh) said he could get a majority but he couldn't," he had said.
Tengku Razaleigh, who is fondly known as Ku Li, had on Thursday signed a declaration in support of Najib.
This was to counter the Save Malaysia declaration spearheaded by Mahathir, which seeks to oust the current prime minister and enact institutional reforms.
Mahathir has accused Najib of numerous misdeeds, but the prime minister has repeatedly denied abusing public funds for personal gain.
Najib has accused Mahathir and those aligned to the former premier of conspiring to topple him from power. -Mkini
