STOP TELLING MUSLIMS HOW TO PRACTICE ISLAM

Non-Muslims should just stop dictating to Muslims what Muslims can and cannot do and how the Qur’an should be interpreted. Non-Muslims are playing with fire and if not careful fire burns. So don’t hide behind a so-called Save Malaysia campaign when the real target is Islam.

This was what Dr D Michael Jeyakumar of Parti Sosialis Malaysia said about yesterday’s Peoples’ Congress and the Save Malaysia campaign:

To me, the real game changer would be a civil society movement that compels Opposition parties to discuss and formulate a joint position on the following six issues:

1. Persistent poverty among the rural Malays and specific programmes to overcome this.

2. Urban poverty.

3. Our position on neo-liberal macro economic policies. Health tourism, private education at tertiary level and public transport. Can we agree on a programme of social protection?

4. The form of Islamisation that is acceptable in a 21st century multiracial society.

5. The tendencies towards corruption within the Opposition. A better system to manage political funding.

6. Democratising the Opposition coalition. Getting the top leadership to conform to democratic norms.

My concern is with item 4. What does he mean by ‘The form of Islamisation that is acceptable in a 21st century multiracial society’? Is the opposition now going to dictate to Malays-Muslims how to interpret the Qur’an? Do they want to rewrite the Qur’an like what the Christians did with the Bible and call the ‘New Revised Version’ of the Qur’an ‘The New Testament’?

It is time that Malays-Muslims stand up and tell the non-Muslims to stay out of Islam and not dictate to Muslims how Islam should be practiced. Do Muslims tell Christians to remove all those statues from their churches because idol-worshipping runs contra to the teachings of Jesus?

And this is why Muslims of all political parties need to unite. The Pakatan Harapan, Save Malaysia Campaign, etc., have many hidden agendas and one of those hidden agendas is to change Islam in Malaysia. And that was why they kicked PAS out of Pakatan Rakyat and formed Pakatan Harapan.
