Judge in Anwar's Pardons Board suit recuses himself

A Kuala Lumpur High Court judge who was in charge of former opposition leader Anwar Ibrahim's challenge against the Pardons Board, today recused himself.
Justice Kamaludin Md Said decided to remove himself from hearing the case as he was involved with Anwar's previous cases when he was with the Attorney-General's Chambers.
It is learnt that prior to being a judge, Justice Kamaludin was one of the deputy public prosecutors in Anwar's Sodomy 1 case against Sukma Darmawan Sasmitaat Madja, and had also acted for the government as a senior counsel in one of Anwar's suit in 2010.
Anwar's lawyer Latheefa Koya confirmed that Justice Kamaludin had recused himself.
The next case management has been fixed on Aug 3.
Anwar had wanted to raise a question of law to the Federal Court but this wasrejected earlier by Justice Nor Bee Ariffin, another High Court judge.

The appellate court last Januaryallowed Anwar's appeal to raise the question of law to the Federal Court.
It ruled that Anwar will be able to pose his question of law to the apex court regarding his challenge on whether the Pardons Board's decision could be questioned.
Anwar, his wife and PKR president Dr Wan Azizah Wan Ismail and two of their daughters named the Pardons Board in the judicial review application to refer the question of law to the Federal Court. - Mkini
